Tricolor Eiffel Tower, Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Blue, white and red hydrangea immersed in a bottle.

Hydrangea macrophylla, Hydrangea in Latin, is a great classic of shade gardens. Originally from Japan, it grows near the coast, in mild and temperate zones, which explains why the Breton climate suits it so well.

Before being a flag, the tricolor was used in the form of ribbons, banners, cockades... It is a mixture between the neoclassical fashion of the end of the 18th century and the effervescence of political ideas of the 19th century.

As for its graphic choice, the tricolor in the form of bands became widespread in the summer of 1789 and reached its peak at the Fête de la Fédération on July 14, 1790.

Then, in October 1790, the principle of three tricolour bands of equal width was established, and in February 1794, the definitive order became: blue, white, red.

Please note that although the Tricolor Herbarium is reactive to ultraviolet (UV) light, because of the blue hydrangea, it is not phosphorescent. It is a normal color in daylight (although the preservation liquid is bluish) and the blue color bursts under black light (UV). We do not guarantee the effectiveness time of this natural reaction to ultraviolet light.
