The Monstera is a member of the Araceae family, along with the Anthurium and Philodendron. Its stems are thick and its leaves, often green, are large. With sufficient light and moisture, the leaves expand, forming deep incisions and/or holes. Mature leaves can reach a diameter of one meter! Because of the size, incisions, and holes in the leaves, this plant was named "Monstrum," which means "monstrous" in Latin.

At its simplest, look for a location with strong light (excluding UV) to make the surrounding liquid and the details of the plants shine. With artificial light, the leaves' magnificent shades will live up to their promise.
