In 1892, Marius Bérard, a woodworker, founded a factory in the Drôme department. He settled in Saint Laurent-en-Royans, where the river water provided power for the machines.
In the middle of the Royans-Vercors forest and working with local logging trucks, Mr. Bérarad develops numerous wood products and quickly involves his sons in the family adventure.
The brand began specializing in kitchen utensils in 1974 with Christine, Marius Bérard's great-granddaughter. And in the 1950s, the company established ties with the south of France, where many businesses were developing around olive trees. It was by developing one of these partnerships that the Bérard family learned to understand and work with this strong, rare, and unique wood that only grows in the Mediterranean basin. After 1975, olive wood became the predominant material in the company, along with other noble woods such as boxwood and beech.
